1 st SASMA Safety & Security Conference

Business security in Poland based on experience of companies operating in Western Europe and CEE region countries

On 5-6 of November we have organized 1st SASMA SAFETY & SECURITY CONFERENCE, which was dedicated to various business security topics.

Conference took place in Warsaw in Lord Hotel and we can admit with pride that such international event was organized in Poland for the first time.
The conference was addressed to specialists and managers responsible for companies operating in the field of safety and security as well as in logistics industry, manufacturing, financial, IT and others, wherever security and safety issues are concerned as crucial.

The conference combined both safety and security areas together and it was willing to attract all specialists by approaching them problems of business security, terrorism & bioterrorism threats, travel security, risk assessments in CEE region, preparation in South Africa for World Cup 2010, BCP plans, IT security and many others.

We had a pleasure to host almost 100 people during this conference. 20 % of our guests were people from abroad from such countries as: Russia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, Czech Republic, England, Ireland, Israel, USA, the Netherlands and Spain. Our guests were representatives from many different companies starting from protection agencies, logistics & transport companies, manufacturing industries, through the big multinational corporations, financial institutions, airport, protection school, police, branch magazines journalists and many more.

In the group of speakers we have hosted safety and security professionals from big multinational companies working in Poland and abroad. All the presentations were very interesting and varied, but there were few of them which really have moved the audience and caused a real storm of questions. Itay Gil’s presentation on the Israeli methods of fighting terrorism with very realistic video clips, Anna Avraham from SASMA EUROPE who shocked most of the audience by delivering information on awareness, or rather lack thereof, in the field of food standards in Poland and abroad and Agnieszka Charyton presenting Midot’s methodology of recruiting workers and checking their loyalty for future employer.

Gerry O'Shea, who owns a security agency operating e.g. in South Africa, had shared his experience and observations in regards to South Africa preparations for a big sport event which is FIFA World Cup 2010.
Hewitt Company presented the problems of information security and business continuity and recovery plans basing its speech on a real story which affected this company few years ago.

Speakers from LRQA, in addition to business continuity plans, presented information security standards and the current security standards in transport and logistics branch. Representatives from Control Risks talked about the political situation and business realities which need to be confronted by firms operating in CEE region markets. International SOS and Genzyme companies quoted many examples illustrating the risks of travelling. In the field of transport and logistics Marcel Saarloos, board member of TAPA EMEA and brand security manager from HP, discussed the TAPA EMEA standards for security of transport, while Willem Duijf successfully talked about telematics solutions used and distributed by GE.

Moreover as an additional attraction we had an exhibition of Segway’s equipment - all guests had an opportunity to test the vehicles, gain valuable information on their usage and learn the experiences of other companies which use this equipment.

All the presentations made during the conference are available on our website in the DOWNLOAD

“This was an extraordinary opportunity to meet safety and security professionals working in different areas, make new relations and networking with business partners and learn some more about up-to-date issues” - explains Sebastian Blazkiewicz, SASMA EUROPE Vice President, Head of Security Department.

The entire event was led by Sebastian Blazkiewicz, SASMA EUROPE vice president, whose summary of this event is as follows: "SASMA EUROPE for the first time in Poland had managed to combine both safety and security areas together. The two-day conference was an excellent opportunity to meet professionals working in different areas, make new relations and networking with business partners and learn some more about up-to-date issues.”
Some of the guests and speakers comments heard during the conference may confirm this and hopefully demonstrate that many people attended this event with great interest.

SASMA EUROPE thus shown that such events are very important for all of us and there is a need to discuss various topics in a group of professionals with a real experience and professional practice.

This conference was to create a platform for all security and safety experts working on business security in different areas starting from terrorism threats through the information security ending with transport and logistics security.

We hope that during this conference we managed to make a first step to open the discussion about these risks and we will be able to exchange our ideas and experience in future.  We believe that we can do something really meaningful for the entire security branch - in this business competition does not count, we can win only by working and collaborating with others and learning from the best.
This was the first conference of international importance, and hopefully it will start a tradition of meeting in Poland, through which we will be able to deepen our knowledge and experience in the field of business security.
