Good morning – as I promised in the February edition, I would like to say a few words about a conference which took place at the end of February in Vilnius. Every week or every month we can hear in the radio or watch in the TV news about serious problems of a company or a country with financial crimes ... more >>

Piracy a long ago and today - the genesis, the size of the phenomenon and its significance
- Marek Sajdak
Global economy in whole, as well as economies of majority of countries, which are creating that wholeness are dependable on maritime environment. The times of self-sufficiency of even major economical powers are long gone. At present to be able to compete on global markets companies need to buy the cheapest materials, employ the cheapest work force and the most expensive advertisement and marketing experts. Of course such description of actual economical situation is a bit exaggerated but idea of cost cutting by moving production or buying resources on other hemisphere is here, in business thinking, to stay. Because of rapid technological progress borders that prevented a search for cheaper resources or work force beyond closest surroundings in the past, have disappeared ... more >>

Intruder Detection – Keeping an eye on your property - Steve Mooney
The first video home security system was patented (patent #3,482,037) on December 2, 1969 to inventor Marie Brown. This basic system was designed to use television surveillance. Basic intruder alarms were available, to those who could afford them. Technology has come a long way since then and sophisticated technology solutions are becoming accessible to the every day consumer. Intruder alarms have progressed beyond a lone siren ringing unnoticed, dependant on wiring and phone lines, they are now being designed to suit the needs and demands of a busy, technologically literate consumer ... more >>

A Bourne identity - Yechiel Barazany
The most important lesson we can learn from the events associated with the killing of senior Hamas, Mahmoud al – Mabhooh is that this type of modus operandi might be the last of its kind. The release of the security cameras’ footage of the squad sent to hit Mabhouh, combined with cross-examined information published by the Dubai Police’s have raised serious questions about the gradual implementation of the biometric passport system and the effect it will have on the ability of states to launch covert operation of this kind. ... more >>

An interview with Gordan Krajacic - Sebastian Błażkiewicz

SB: Can you tell us what exactly a Combat System of fighting or Combat Self Defense is?

GK: Well, frankly speaking, it is a new evolution of all of my Martial Arts trainings and experiences combined with knowledge of other top spec ops instructors of the world. Combat Self Defense is designed to teach anyone, I mean really anyone, how to defend oneself, how to attack, in one word how to fight and win every time. Firstly, it is devised for beginners and people who do not have any Martial Arts experience but there are also quality systems for those who practice Martial Arts too. Basically, in Combat Systems - I can teach anybody how to transform every move they make into the combat-fighting-attacking-defending-demolition moves and how to win a fight ... more >>

Occupational Health & Safety. Russian scenarios - Vladislav Petrov
A System of Risk Assessment and Analysis mainly has theoretical applications. There is a state standard regulating the assessment system (with risk matrix). This standard is rarely enforced by state control authorities and, respectively, is rarely used in Russian industrial companies. In some industrial companies having a professional labor safety service the requirements of this standard are limited by having weekly (or monthly (!)) control patrolling of the unit’s territory and drawing up an emergency action plan for accident prevention. In rare cases, the results of control inspections lead to an operative meeting. As a rule, they limit themselves to formal bringing the results to company employees’ notice. Potential risks, typically, are subject to either elimination or control, in case they are noticeable. ... more >>

Intermodal shipping and telematic solutions - GE & EuroWatch & MAPLE
For those of us who are not completely familiar with the “in’s and out’s” of the logistics industry, Intermodal freight by definition is the transportation of freight using a container or vehicle, using multiple modes of transportation (rail, ship, and truck), without any handling of the actual freight itself when changing modes. The method reduces cargo handling, may reduce damages and loss, may allow freight to be transported faster and should improve security ... more >>
